Negative Effects of Global Warming on Food Production

A picture called “above the polar bear” was awarded in 2018. In the picture, the polar bear struggled to jump between ice floes to survive. People cannot help but pay attention on why the living environment for polar bear is so terrible. Research found that global warming is an important factor for polar bears’ terrible living environment. Global warming is a phenomenon related to nature. It is due to accumulation of greenhouse effect, which lead to energy accumulate in land-gas system, rising the livestock and fish.

Global warming will have negative effects on crops production. Water cycle will be directly affected by global warming, resulting in droughts or floods in some places, and the production of crops there will decline. In addition, rising temperature of the world will cause increase of weeds and pest, further leading to reduced crops production.

Global warming will not only have negative effects on crops production, but also on livestock production. Global warming will negatively affect livestock’s health. The appetite of livestock will decline under the situation of global warming. If livestock do not eat enough food that they need to grow, livestock’s bodies will be smaller, and the production will reduce. Moreover, more and more farmer will find that single livestock production will reduce, their economic benefits will reduce and costs will increase, fewer farmer will raise livestock, further resulting in the reduced production of livestock.

Except livestock production will be affected by global warming, the production of fish will also be negatively affected by global warming. With rising temperature, the temperature and acid rate will also increase, making the living environment of fish much more terrible. Some fish can not suit changed water environment, they will die in a few decades, resulting in reduced fish production. Furthermore, rising temperature of water will make some fish which prefer to stay in cold sea area move to further northern sea area to share limited food and space with fish which origin in northern sea area, resulting in some fish do not have enough food to eat and eventually die. Fish production will also reduce because of this reason.

Global warming will lead to some extreme weather, such as droughts and floods, increase in pest and weeds, harm on animal health, no enough food and living environment for fish, finally causing the reduced production of global food.

Read Chapter 16: “The Report That Changes Things.”

Chapter 16 The Report That Changes Things.pdf

You work in the Human Resources department of Diamandis Publishing House, and you have been told to write an incident report about something that happened on October 15, 2018. Here is the background, and a description of what occurred:

Vince Chamberlain is Editor-in-Chief of Humanities Magazine. This means he is in charge of all written content in the magazine except for advertisements. He has held this position for the past 5 years; before he was promoted, he worked for 10 years as writer for the magazine.

Charles Parkhurst is Publisher of Humanities Magazine. This means he is in charge of selling advertising. He has been Publisher for 10 years; prior to being promoted, he worked for 10 years as a sales rep: 5 years as Sales Representative and 5 years as Senior Sales Representative.

Chamberlain and Parkhurst tolerate each other, but just barely. Six years ago, Chamberlain and his wife, Martha Foster, were divorced. Two months after the divorce was final, Martha Foster married Parkhurt. As a result, there is bad blood between the two men. In 2010, soon after Chamberlain learned that his ex-wife had married Parkhurst, the two men got into a verbal altercation in the company cafeteria. Witnesses said that Chamberlain threatened to kill Parkhurst. Both men received official reprimands but, because of the personal nature of the grievance, Human Resource personnel persuaded the company’s President and CEO, Jacob Diamandis, not to fire either man. Since then, the two men speak to each other only when absolutely necessary, usually relying upon underlings to convey messages to each other.

In the October 2018 issue of Humanities Magazine, Chamberlain published a short memoir by Jane Malcolm titled, “My Father: The Drunk” in which she discusses how her family was destroyed by her father’s alcoholism. He also published a long poem by Timothy Barker titled, “Booze Nearly Killed Me.” Chamberlain saw the final layout of the magazine, which included everything including advertisements, and approved the layout. Parkhurst had no input into layout.

When the issue came out, Parkhurst was furious to find that an advertisement from his biggest account, Jack Daniels, had been placed between the memoir and the poem. Jack Daniels Company was insisting they be reimbursed the entire cost, both production and advertising fees, for the ad because of the terrible placement.

Parkhurst went to Chamberlain’s office. He flung open the door and barged inside. The two men yelled at each other for at least 10 minutes, until someone threw a punch and a fistfight ensued (Parkhurst said Chamberlain started the fight; Chamberalin said it was Parkhurst).

Now the entire magazine is in an uproar.

Your job is to write up the incident report, which will be submitted directly to Jacob Diamandis. [For this assignment, if you wish, you may make up witnesses and/or other material and information.] Make sure to use Chapter 16 as your guide.

Creating an Independent Future

This discussion is your opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the objective justify the collaborative role of transition team members who actively participate in transition meetings. The discussion represents your mastery of the Course Learning Outcome 5.

Federal guidelines require children who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to have a Transition Plan for post-graduation beginning after their 16th birthday and, in some cases, as early as after their 14th birthday. This meeting is separate from the IEP meeting and focuses on the student’s interests, independence, and self-determination (Wright & Darr-Wright, 2013). The purpose of the Transition Plan meeting is for all stakeholders in the student’s education to help plan an independent future for the student.

    According to IDEA 2004, Transition Services refers to:
    1. is designed to be a results-oriented process, that is focused on improving the academic and functional achievement of the child with a disability to facilitate the child’s movement from school to post-school activities, including post-secondary education, vocational education, integrated employment (including supported employment), continuing and adult education, adult services, independent living, or community participation;
    2. is based on the individual child’s needs, taking into account the child’s strengths, preferences, and interests;
    3. includes instruction, related services, community experiences, the development of employment and other post-school adult living objectives, and, when appropriate, acquisition of daily living skills and functional vocational evaluation. (As cited in Wright & Darr-Wright, 2013, para 1).

As noted above, IDEA has outline what is required, but parents oftentimes find the transition meeting overwhelming and intimidating with so many team member experts involved in the transition process and with unclear terms and ‘jargon’ (Bangser, 2008).

Initial Post – Imagine you are a parent of a child with a disability who is preparing for a transition meeting. Read the resource IDEA 2004 Close Up: Transition Planning (Cortiella, 2007). In your post, write a question for three different transition team members (3 questions total) about topics that may not have been addressed or that need additional follow-up answers. Additionally, provide an answer to your questions with at least one scholarly resource that supports your chosen answer.
