Re: Topic 3 DQ 1

Caring for the injured and the sick has always been necessary throughout history. Prior to Christianity, nursing care in ancient cultures was given by men, and nursing was viewed as a strict religious vocation n (Whitney, 2018). Medication men were mostly responsible for providing healthcare services for the sick and injured. Information on sickness and therapy for disease was given on an experimentation basis, as science and research were not yet known. Evidenced-based practice was at this point not yet recognized. Evil spirits were blamed for illness and death at that time.

The nursing practice has advanced enormously over several decades; how we dress, practice, and above all formal education. Development in innovation has enormously further developed how we analyze and treat patients. Today, nurses utilize critical thinking and evidence-based practice from demonstrated logical investigations to guarantee better outcomes for patients.

There is no reasonable doubt that nurses play important role in the healthcare industry. Nonetheless, all the nonstop improvement in nursing started with some vital historical pioneers that have significantly impacted the advancement of nursing, nursing education and the prestige attached to nursing as a profession. Pioneers like Florence Nightingale who founded the Nightingale School of Nurses in 1860 in London England. During the Crimean war (1854-1856), she served as a nurse and found out that filthy everyday environments and stuffed regions were ill healing and would roll out great improvements to medical services by directing examination and carrying out medical services setting changes that are yet completed and alluded to in the present nursing practice. Today Nightingales infection control model is very important in nursing practice especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, Pioneer Mildred Montag who change model for nursing in 1952 with the improvement of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) This was because of the shortage in nursing and was intended to serve as a possibility for nurses to get school credit with their preparation. Montag’s aim was that ADN nurses would work under the direction of baccalaureate-prepared nurses (Montag, 1959).”

Re: Topic 3 DQ 1

Nurses were not considering a profession in early days. Nurses were just a group of women who took care of sick people using medical skills learned from their mothers or others in the same field (Ranard. 2015). The turning point of nursing practice started from Crimea war. Florence nightingale, a British woman who established nursing school after she provided service to British soldiers and returned back to England. Realized the importance of education in nursing, a New York physician valentine Seaman, initiated nursing course to educate people who interested in nursing. Well trained nurses took care many sick and wounded patients during Civil War. The year 1873 was a watershed year in American professional nursing history. In that year, there are three nurse educational programs began operated which were all based on ideas advanced by Florence Nightingale, are generally acknowledged to be the forerunners of organized, professional nurse education in the United States (Whelan, nd.). Today, the nursing profession has changed drastically but the education standard is getting higher. Colleges and universities provide associated and baccalaureate degree in Nursing to meet the requirement of nursing practice. Registered nurse needs to pass the NCLEX before starting practice. Continue education and lifelong learning enable nurses have chance to update their knowledge to fit the changing of new technology and meet patient’s needs.

Re: Topic 3 DQ 1
Nursing has changed and evolved throughout the years. it began as work for men, mainly religious. With time, it moved on to become a highly advanced and sophisticated profession practiced by highly educated individuals. One of those activities that allowed nursing and the nursing profession to experience an evolution and advancement was the making of wars. Florence Nightingale would not have been the pioneer of modern-day nursing had it not been for the Crimean war of 1854. As a nurse during this war, she became highly interested in and immensely influenced by the flaws within the military hospital systems which contributed to so many preventable deaths (McDonald, 2020). Consequently, she stepped up doing work on sanitary reformation and laying the groundwork for the advancement of nursing training and education. She wrote many books including the first nursing education book as well as establishing the first nursing school (Karimi & Masoudi, 2015). Furthermore, other key leaders that have influenced nursing include Elizabeth Grace Campbell Neill and Mary Eliza Mahoney. Elizabeth Grace was responsible for the first nurse registration act in the world. Mary contributed to nursing by founding an organization for African American nurses at a time when they were being discriminated against. She named the organization the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses that would later merge with the ANA. Having said all of that, nursing roles have also evolved. Professional nurses no longer have to practice in just acute care settings. They can become educators, researchers, home health nurses among many other roles. And as time changes, these roles will continue to evolve and other opportunities will appear.
